EENY MEENY MINY MOE: Long Island Iced Tea

Non-alcoholic Long Island Ice Tea

Long Island Iced Tea is a classic alcohol drink that is known for its insanely high alcohol content. A traditional Long Island Iced Tea has vodka, rum, gin, tequila, and triple sec all mixed together.

The Long Island Iced Tea cocktail goes back to 1972 in the town of Hampton Bays. The Orange Triple Sec mellows out the strong combination. Since 1972,  Long Island Iced Tea is still now the most requested drink, especially among younger adults who are looking for a stronger drink.

The main flavor of a Long Island Iced Tea is its citrus and orange due to the Triple Sec. We use fresh lemon juice and orange juice ( fresh is always best).

While Long Island Iced Tea doesn't necessarily have any real tea, we  made this mocktail with actual tea. English breakfast tea has a great neutral taste, which makes it an excellent choice. The subtle earthy flavor goes well with the citrus in the drink. Ginger beer gives our Long Island Iced Tea a special spicy kick. This zesty flavor is similar to the one that the insanely blend of liquors, gives the alcohol version.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 English Breakfast tea bags

  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar

  • cups ginger beer

  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice

  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice

  • Cola

  • Mint Sprig

Or in place of the fresh OJ & lemon juice, Lyre's has an Orange Triple Sec alternative.

DIRECTIONS

  • Bring 6 cups of water to a boil and then pour into a large pitcher with the 4 English breakfast tea bags. Let the tea steep for 10 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags and then let the brewed tea cool.
  • Once the tea has chilled, Add the vinegar, ginger beer, lemon juice, and orange juice. Stir slightly.
  • Pour the virgin long island iced tea into tall glasses filled with ice. Top each with a splash of cola and a mint sprig. Enjoy cold!
